Crown Sinnet Braiding

For this technique, you can use the same kinds and weights of wire used for regular braiding.

You can braid 3, 4. 5, 6. or 7 wires together into a sinnet.

1. Measure wires in the given lengths, twist them together to secure them, and wrap them around a knitting needle. as shown.

Secure the knitting needle and the wires together in a vise. You will work up the needle. Spread the wires around the needle as shown.

Plait Sinnet

2. Starting with any wire, bring it in a counterclockwise direction over 2 other wires. Bend it down a little at a diagonal, as close as possible to the knitting needle.

3. Now take the wire directly behind the one you just moved and bring it over the next two wires (including the one you just moved). Repeal this step until you are finished

Finishing

Roll the sinnet in a piece of leather while pressing down on the work surface (see page 19) Keep the knitting needle inside as you do this.

If the sinnet still seems uneven, pound it a little with a plastic hammer, still without removing the knitting needle. You may have trouble getting the knitting needle out again, but wrapping a piece of leather around the sinnet will help you get a better grip.

Measure the amount you need, then cut off the startup twists first, measure again, and cut off the other end Turn the cut ends into the sinnet using small round-nose pliers, so they won't snag or scratch.
